A village in the middle of nature!
The Écomusée d’Alsace is a genuine early 19th-century village, featuring some 80 buildings typical of rural Alsace. This extraordinary collection of buildings includes homes, farms and crafts workshops, which were painstakingly dismantled and transferred to the museum to be put back together and preserved.
Go ahead and push open the door of every house you see to find out what kind of treasures are concealed within its walls – it could be a typical interior of the time, an exhibition, a craft demonstration or a barn with animals!
There are nature trails all round the village which will take you across the fields and into the woods to enjoy the biodiversity and farmland. Over 5000 living species have been recorded in this wonderful oasis of nature.
The Écomusée d’Alsace is the largest open-air museum in France and is open from May to December. It’s best to plan a whole day to enjoy all its attractions, and you’ll find restaurants and picnic areas within the grounds.
Come along with friends or family and take part in the events organised every day in the village – you’ll see the cow being milked, the pigs being fed, you can find out about bees and their hives, take a ride on a tractor and enjoy food made the traditional way in the Maison des Goûts et des Couleurs.
