The garden was created in 1926 by a group of railway workers and workers at companies in the city, all passionate about roses. It was laid out as a French formal garden, designed by the head gardener of L’Orangerie Park in Strasbourg. The Rose Garden in Schiltigheim has about 4,000 rosebushes in 380 varieties. The members of the “Les Amis des Roses de Strasbourg Schiltigheim” association are responsible for its care and management and for planning events held there.
