Description

The Schiltigheim rose garden was created in 1926 by a group of Schiltigheim workers and artisans who formed an association ("Les Amis des Roses de Schiltigheim"), on land made available free of charge by the city of Schiltigheim.
From 1926 to 1929, Joseph Frick, the head gardener of the Parc de l'Orangerie, and his son Jules designed and oversaw the creation of this formal, French-style garden with some 150 geometric and symmetrical flowerbeds, borders—some of them boxwood—paths, a pond, a fountain, a waterfall, a rockery, and terraces.
You will discover some 200 varieties of roses: bushes, standard roses, and climbing roses.
The upkeep of these more than 2,000 rose bushes, as well as the management and activities of the Rose Garden, are ensured by the volunteer members of the association "Les Amis des Roses de Schiltigheim – Strasbourg" (Friends of the Roses of Schiltigheim – Strasbourg).

On Sunday, May 24, 2026, the Schiltigheim Rose Garden will celebrate its 100th anniversary during its Open House. Activities and themed guided tours will be offered.
