Visible year-round, accessible under certain conditions, and a venue for cultural and musical events, the Valff Book Garden aims to foster interfaith dialogue within a verdant setting conducive to awakening curiosity about others and mutual respect. Current environmental issues and eco-friendly practices are also integral to our approach.
The Book Garden brings to life key episodes from the Jewish, Christian, and Muslim faiths along a verdant path. The plants featured are directly derived from or inspired by sacred texts.
Nearly twenty areas are designed for this purpose: the seven principal species (fig, olive, pomegranate, etc.) represent Paradise; the oak and tamarisk recall Abraham; thorns and roses symbolize the Passion, and so on.
In warmer weather, you will be greeted by flowering nigella and ornamental garlic. You can discover acanthus and its Mediterranean relatives, phlomis, and a collection of sages, enhanced by waves of daylilies. You can revel in the fragrance of Damask roses, admire the vigor of the climbing rose 'Pleine de Grâce' and the shimmering colors of 'Joseph's Coat'. Sitting in the shade of the Babylon willows, enjoy the tranquility of our garden.
