The name “Les Racines du Ciel” (The Roots of the Sky) comes from a book written by Romain Gary, who was awarded the Goncourt Prize in 1956. It tells the tale of the adventures of a Frenchman named Morel, who undertakes a campaign in Africa to protect the elephants, and risks his life in doing so. When the book was reprinted in 1980, the term “ecology” was taking on new meaning.
“Les Racines du Ciel” is a garden that provides a natural, calm, pleasant setting, where you can enjoy the surrounding nature while sipping a cup of coffee.
This garden was inspired by the Graines Voltz trial garden in Brain sur Authion, an open-air catalogue with more than 700 plant varieties.
With its greenhouse and shared vegetable gardens (each employee has their own vegetable garden), the garden provides relaxation areas connected to each other by pathways.
The shared vegetable garden won a prize in the French Vegetable Garden Contest in 2024, awarded by the National Horticultural Society of France.
The use of rainwater, together with the rooftops equipped with photovoltaic panels, highlight a strong commitment to the environment. Moreover, the diversity of the plants, ranging from the most common to the most rare, enriches our ecosystem.
