Located in Erstein, in the fertile Plain of Alsace, Canop'Terre is a centre for biodiversity created in 2016, devoted to the observation, experimentation and transmission of knowledge and techniques of agroecology and permaculture.
It’s also an association featuring professionals, about twenty active volunteers and over 200 members. Its goal is to support the local area's ecological transition, by welcoming the general public, including schoolchildren, families, professionals and associations.
The educational garden covers half a hectare and includes diversified areas for growing fruit trees (90 species), edible plants, medicinal plants, dye plants and aquatic plants. A conservatory for heirloom varieties of tomatoes and other vegetables also serves as a meeting place where cultural and artistic events are held, such as shows, concerts and exhibitions.
The little barefoot trail is a place where you can reconnect with nature, using all of your senses. The semi-underground greenhouse protects seedlings from frost, while the educational pond serves as a reminder of the importance of water for all living organisms. The garden is autonomous in terms of water and electricity, reflecting a commitment to a sparing use of resources. The dye plant square and workshops enable visitors to discover and experiment with plant pigments.
